The Sun Stands Still

Do we really believe in the impossible?, Are miracles still possible, do they still happen? In Pastor Furtick new book “The Sun Stands Still” He teaches that it is possible to have an audacious faith, leaving God to do the "super natural." Pastor Furtick is masterful in telling this great “real” event in history. What if we lived our life by this “audacious faith”? What if we dared to believe God for the impossible?
This book will make you smile and it will give you a rush that this faith is possible in our lives today? It's meant to make you take charge of your life and create your own miracle that GOD has for you. Make sure you buy this book! Then read it! Apply It!

Seeds Of Turmoil

I hoped to learn the root of the Middle East problem by reading this book. I found the historical roots of the conflict in the middle east, (which I was not aware of.) this book helped me turn on the “Light Switch” to what the situation really is. When I started reading this book, I read it more like a history book and made some notes and actually was able to see what caused it all and that our choices can effect history.

I enjoyed the authors thoughts and how he brought ideas and thoughts out of the Bible, It does seem to be the only true accurate account of the beginning of this conflict that has stood the test of time.

I think you will enjoy this book, read it with an open mind not as a religious book. I did enjoy it and recommend it highly, it will open your eyes to the “Root” of the Middle East problems.

Beyond Opinion- Living The Faith We Defend

Beyond Opinion is a serious book about defending your faith. This book is quite weighty and can not be lightly read. It is extremely informative and thought provoking and it is set in the "Real World". Many, many questions are being raised all over the world about Christianity, and we must provide real and factual answers in a thoughtful way. This book goes above and beyond to answer many challenges by atheist, Muslims and society in general.
Ravi hits a "Home-run" with this latest book. As always he is interesting, truthful, factual and Christ centered. It is the "text book" for anyone wanting to defend their faith in a real way.
Any serious follower of Christ MUST read this one. Great for college students. Five Stars!

A Guy's Guide to Life How to Become a Man in 224 Pages or Less By James Boyett

A Guy's Guide to Life How to Become a Man in 224 Pages or Less

By James Boyett

I believe this book did a fair job of getting its point across, “how a young man should live a christian life”

I do not believe this is the best book on the subject. I think it misses some of the ideas that Jesus was trying to teach us. But, that being said I also realize that the audience that this book was written for is teenage boys. It does give a good guideline for teens in their formative years that they may otherwise not get any good instruction, and they will be better for reading it.

I think the book may in some cases provide good information to a teen that has an “Absent Father”, in that case I think it could be very helpful. It does give good ideas and guidence about gender roles for males and overall helpful for a teen boy to live a christian life

I would give it a 3 Star Rating!

BOOK REVIEW:Jesus Manifesto : By Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola

When I read the title: Jesus Manifesto, I thought great one more book about a persons opinion of who they think Jesus is. I then thought wouldn't it be great to finally read a book that uses the Bible to get its context for who Jesus is. GOOD NEWS! This book is the one. It starts out with a good look at the book of Colossians. It takes the Apostle Paul's words as the groundwork for the rest of this well written book. It does not use the authors opinion of who Jesus is or might be, but uses scripture to set that stage. That is refreshing. It takes you on a journey through the attributes of Jesus past and present and goes a long way to explain our right standing with Jesus if we belong to Him.
This is an important book, in a world where everyone has their own opinion of who they want Jesus to be. This book gives us an accurate look of who He really is according to the Bible. It is hard hitting and no punches pulled. I t will really challenge those of us from a from a traditional background where Jesus was more about morality and religion than a true life changing force.
For those that are hearing about Jesus for the first time, it will be very revealing about the true JESUS. Enjoy this great ride of soul searching and a calling to the real Jesus.

Book Review Time! (Or at least a chapter)

I wanted to take the time to right a review of what might be one of the better "Christian" books to be written this year. It is a book titled: Radical,Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream by David Platt.
I have to say that it is hard hitting, and it is one of those books that you want to read, because you know you should, but you know it might hurt. And it does.
As a Pastor I struggle with the idea that we tend to be much more concerned with how to "Do Church" (I hate that phrase) than really looking at the one we claim to "Do it all for, Jesus"
The book starts by looking at Luke Chapter 9 and exploring some of the most unpopular teachings of Jesus, and then the author asks us to reflect and to look at how we as a modern Evangelical church line up with what Jesus had to say. It really takes a huge stab at the "American Dream" type of Christianity of which most churches (Mine Included) seem to follow.
Well it's much better and gut wrenching than I can portray in my blog, so if you are "Christian" then you should get it and read every page! It will most likely lead to a decision of whether or not you want to be a Christian!

Thank you for reading this, I know you did not have to!

The Conference Is Over, Now What?

I'm back, dog tired and I loved every minute of the Desiring God Conference 2009.
It centered around John Calvin's 500th birthday. I really didn't know much about Calvin, I do now. John Calvin is a great man that got a lot of bad press and 450 years after his death he still is. The theme was "With Calvin In The Theater Of God"
Calvin was about exalting God, suffering for God and enjoying God. Calvin was not a perfect man although none are, (One exception)
Calvin had the highest view of #1- Scripture #2- Jesus (Not necessarily in that order)
Many great speakers at the conference, Mark Talbot was awesome, he is a philosophy professor at Weaton College. Who new a professor could be so interesting! Julius Kim preached his guts out, so so very good! But at the end of the day nobody was better than Dr. Piper, bar none the most intelligent, humble and kindest man I have met in my life.
In a day when the above qualities are rare to find in pastor or preacher, I have found one. I had the opportunity to go by his church "Bethlehem Baptist" I wandered for an hour just looking and although the church was not a huge "Mega" church, as I thought it might be, there was a great feeling of humble kindness and willingness to help in everyone that I met. And there wasn't a sign, picture, book or mention of the name John Piper ANY WHERE!
His opinion is that God should be exalted, not him. Now that is different.
He lives in the inner city of Minneapolis as the church is located there also, he walks the eight blocks to work and Church, for those of you not following along Same Thing!
He doesn't accept any money for any books he writes all the money goes to the church ministries, He has written over 25 books, he could be wealthy, he chooses not to be.
But some will say after all that, "Yes, but he is a Calvinist" And to that I say...... read the Bible, so was the Apostle Paul and I'm quite sure Jesus was to!
(Yes I know Paul and Jesus predate Calvin, you figure it out!)
John Piper is not God, nor should he be praised. The difference is that HE KNOWS IT!
Well that sums it up, the conference was worth going to and again next year.
